Physical Education
At our school, the Physical Education (PE) curriculum develops the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding, so that they can perform with increasing competence and confidence a range of physical activities. Our PE curriculum inspires all children to enjoy and succeed in competitive sports and other physically demanding activities. It promotes positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle.
We aim for children to develop the necessary knowledge and skills to make informed choices about physical activity throughout their lives. We provide opportunities for children to compete in sports and other activities to build character and embed lifelong cooperative skills: working in a team, communication, leadership and fair play.
We provide a safe and supportive environment for children to flourish in a range of different physical activities which is essential in supporting their physical, emotional, spiritual, social and moral development. PE at Kilburn Grange School provides challenging and enjoyable learning through a range of sporting activities such as invasion games, net, wall and ball games, strike and field games, gymnastics, dance, swimming and outdoor adventure.
Our specialist sports coach teaches PE across all classes and some after-school clubs.
Competitions
We create every opportunity possible for the children to compete, because we believe that friendly and supportive competitions:
- create a practical purpose to children’s learning and contextualise it
- offer a friendly environment where children can learn how to win and lose respectfully
- help building confidence
- teach children how to work within teams
- improve children’s social skills
- test children against their peers and stimulates self-improvement.
Our pupils regularly take part in our trust-wide competitions, as well as local, regional and even national tournaments:
- BPET football tournaments (boys & girls)
- BPET Invictus Games
- British Dodgeball tournaments.
Sports teaches you character, it teaches you to play by the rules, it teaches you to know what it feels like to win and lose – it teaches you about life. – Billie-Jean King
