Year 4 pupils meet Georgia Gould MP
Last week, Year 4 pupils had an exciting opportunity to meet Georgia Gould, Parliamentary Secretary at the Cabinet Office and local MP, at Kilburn Library. The visit was a fantastic chance for the children to engage with local politics and discuss issues important to them.
During their conversation, pupils asked Ms Gould to bring their concerns to Brent Council, particularly advocating for the closure of Priory Park Road to traffic, have more space to play and breathe cleaner air. They put forward ideas on how to utilise such space, for example by having more plants, green areas, or even a swimming pool!
They were very interested in Ms Gould's career and had a list insightful questions, including when she decided to become an MP and which football team she supports. The highlight of the visit came when Ms Gould extended a special invitation for the pupils to visit her in Parliament — an experience that promises to be both educational and inspiring!
Ms Gould said: "It was a real pleasure to meet up with pupils from Kilburn Grange School again, and to hear their thoughts about politics, their local community and football! Their ideas for improving the local area, and in particular their ideas for a car free Priory Park Road, were really inspiring."
Adding to the excitement, the pupils were thrilled to see their own artwork displayed as part of the exhibition at Kilburn Library. The exhibition features images from Kilburn Oasis, the local community project ran last September, and the children took great pride in spotting familiar faces among the displayed pieces. You can read more about Kilburn Oasis here.
Local artist Heini King, who took images of Kilburn Oasis and curated the exhibition, also organised a writing workshop with pupils involving all images available around the library. She said: "It was lovely to see how eager they were to engage with the discussions, looking at pictures and writing about them. I was so impressed by their enthusiasm, insight and eagerness to make the most of the visit!"
Well done to our Year 4 pupils for their thoughtful engagement and commitment to making a difference in their local community. Many thanks also to Ms Gould, and Camden Council staff who facilitated the event.
