Ofsted: On its way to 'Outstanding'

Ofsted: "The evidence gathered suggests that the inspection grade might be 'outstanding' if a graded inspection were carried out now."

These are the opening lines of the Ofsted report after their recent visit in May 2024.

Graded and ungraded

Ofsted inspections are classified "graded" or "ungraded". In an "ungraded" inspection, schools cannot hope to change their judgement for the better; this only happens at graded visits.

We have maintained our "Good" rating only because the inspection was ungraded, and could not award us a with a higher judgement. Ofsted's positive findings suggest that we could have been judged "Outstanding" had this been a graded inspection.

"Proud to be part of the community"

The inspector commended our strong sense of community. They noted that pupils are proud to belong and enjoy their time at our school, including spending time with Neo the dog mentor, who adds to the welcoming atmosphere.

The report praised our dedicated staff who are committed to the school's motto Growing Hearts and Minds to Learn, Enjoy and Succeed creating a supportive environment where all pupils thrive.

The report also highlighted our exemplary pupil's behaviour saying that: "they demonstrate impeccable manners towards one another and visitors."

Ambition and potential

Our school has high ambitions for all children, including those with special needs. Our staff's ability to accurately identify SEND pupils and adjust the curriculum to support them, were recognised by the inspectors: "Leaders and staff are relentless in ensuring that pupils benefit from a broad and rich education. As a result, there is a palpable love of learning. Pupils achieve well and are very well prepared for the next stage of their education."

We provide a wealth of enriching experiences, including a diverse range of educational visits, after-school clubs, and host a School Council. These opportunities allow pupils to flourish academically, socially, and emotionally, contributing to their development as well-rounded, responsible and confident individuals.

Early Years

"A carefully planned extracurricular offer enables pupils to build on what they learn in the classroom. For example, pupils, including children in early years, visit their local parks and heaths so that they can forage."

The early years children also benefit from an "excellent start to their education" which focuses on early communication and language development, as well as curiosity and independence.

Headteacher Helen Khinich added: "We are immensely proud of our recent Ofsted report, which highlights the dedication, passion, and hard work of our entire school community. This outstanding achievement is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our staff, the enthusiasm of our students, and the support of our parents. Together, we have created an environment where excellence thrives, and we remain dedicated to continuing this journey of success. I am so proud to be part of this journey and see how far we have come from when the school first opened in September 2015."
